Applying to a WashU Law online graduate program is a straightforward process designed to evaluate your readiness for rigorous legal education. Our review is holistic, with an emphasis on your academic background, professional experience and ability to succeed in a demanding learning environment.

WashU Law admits new students three times per year (fall, spring and summer).

Admission Requirements

All applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited institution.

Additional requirements apply for LLM applicants:

  • Master of Laws in U.S. Law applicants must hold a first degree in law (JD or international equivalents are all accepted)
  • Master of Laws in Taxation applicants must hold a Juris Doctor

Application Components

Each component of your application is designed to assess your academic background, professional experience and ability to succeed in graduate-level coursework, rather than relying on test scores alone. Our admissions process is holistic, and as such LSAT, GMAT and GRE scores are not needed to apply.

Transcripts
You may apply with unofficial transcripts. Yet, official transcripts from all institutions attended must be submitted prior to enrollment.

Undergraduate GPA
3.0 is the standard GPA requested. If your GPA was under this threshold, we encourage you to provide details on how you will improve in a graduate setting.

Resume or CV
Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae highlighting your professional experience, education and any relevant skills or accomplishments.

Statement of Purpose/Personal Statement
In 400 to 500 words, please tell us why you are interested in the program, why you are a good fit for WashU Law and how you will utilize the program following graduation.

English Language Proficiency Test
English language proficiency test scores are required for international applicants. Additional details are available on our international students page.

Letters of Recommendation
Letters of recommendation are not required, but you may be submitted to provide additional context on your academic or professional experience.
